Performance Testing and Analysis in a Cloud Environment: A practical approach.

Session Date and Time: Day 3, March 25, 12.30pm EST (9.30am PST) (45min)
Keywords: cloud Development and Testing.
Authors: Ben Owen, Cloud Quality Assurance Services.
Abstract: Although Performance Testing has been around for many years, the approach for Cloud Computing environments needs to be adjusted to best address the risks and concerns these new complex environments create.

In today’s ever-changing systems landscape, the one question that remains relevant is “will this system do what I need it to do and when I need it to do it?”. This presentation will delve into Performance Testing in cloud environments, giving the audience a practical overview and approach to testing these specialized environments. The initial part of this presentation will be targeted towards the decision makers and C level executives to best understand the benefits of a full Performance Tested and tuned environment. We will also explore why it is critical for the business to both evaluate and validate what they are being provided by their vendors.

The presentation will then focus on the needs of the technical system owners, investigating the technical details of cloud Performance Testing, and discussing the issues and constraints of this approach. To conclude, two real world case study examples will be presented that will illustrate a performance test in a cloud environment. Although this presentation is not intended to be tool or vendor specific, we will detail the usage of certain tools in the case study and tools sections.
