The Personality Cloud

Abstract: The advent of non-persistent desktops in the emerging DaaS model is an interesting business use case as it shows how using the cloud computing model for client computing can reduce cost. User environment management (UEM) is a critical piece of successfully deploying DaaS, as user settings are managed separately from the desktop and delivery method, dramatically reducing management costs and providing a stable, consistent personality for the end-user.
This session will explore the “personality cloud” and its need to be separated from the corporate operating system and applications in order for significant economic benefits to be received. Additionally, it will discuss the management benefits and best practices for standardizing the corporate desktop, and how automating the delivery of the user’s working environment leads to a more satisfying user experience and decreases operational costs for organizations.

Abstract: The concept of desktop virtualization has rapidly gained attention across a broad set of enterprise, medium and small business owners because it promises tremendous benefits from centralization and simplification of the desktop management lifecycle.

In particular, an ability to rapidly and dynamically create user desktops from a so-called golden-image VM, combined with user-specific applications added using application virtualization, the user's personal profile, and the ability to deliver terminal-services based applications, VoIP and other collaborative apps in the virtual desktop have the potential to dramatically simplify the desktop lifecycle and reduce the number of instances of OS, apps and other software that need to be maintained.
