Lessons on Scale from Massive Enterprise Deployment.

Keywords: SaaS, scalability, mulit-tenancy, deployment, applications.
Authors: Tom Fisher, Vice President of Cloud Computing for SuccessFactors.
Abstract: Cloud computing enables unprecedented application scalability in global reach, volume and ubiquitous access. To achieve rapid, effective and secure application deployment at cloud scale, enterprises must now address new challenges unique to the cloud environment – building apps and infrastructure that are designed for scale from the start. In this talk, we’ll look at case studies of variable-size multi-tenant deployments ranging from a small office to arguably the largest enterprise cloud deployment in history – the 420,000-seat deployment of SuccessFactors software at Siemens AG. We’ll address how to evaluate your application and deployment environment and how to choose appropriate scalability strategies that fit user needs and technical constraints. Ultimately, participants will gain a strong technical foundation for building a flexible and user-driven cloud solution and a thorough understanding of the tools and approaches available.

How Cloud is working as a disruptor to shake up middleware design.

Session Date & Time: Day 2 March 24 11:15am EST (8:15AM PST) (45min)
Keywords: websphere, grid.
Authors: Lan Vuong, WebSphere Technical Evangelist at IBM.
Abstract: Cloud technology is changing the game. Many of the long held assumptions are being thrown away and this will cause design assumptions which traditional middleware has been built with to be re-examined.

Virtualization of Data Center is first Step: Challenges and pitfalls.

Keywords: Virtual Data Center, Applications on Demand, Capex, Opex, Security, High Availability, Disaster Recovery.
SLA.
Authors: Ram Kumar, Persistent Inc. and Anurag Jain, Gigzee Inc and Atul Srivastava, Nexius Inc.
Abstract: We all know the cloud is the current day panacea for Enterprise Data Center Cost reduction. It started with outsourced IT that cut internal IT costs by a third but left everything else intact. Virtualization is a step in the delivery of Enterprise Cloud and dynamic applications on demand, and a first big step towards the imagined panacea in the cloud. Virtualization also has the transforming effect of moving Capex to Opex. Multiple vendors have come up with virtualization solutions, but the challenges to operate and maintain a Virtual Data Center remain.

Cloud Security and Privileged Identities in the Cloud

Keywords: security, privileged identities, password management, identity management.
Authors: Philip Lieberman, founder and CEO of Lieberman Software.
Abstract:
Major ISPs and cloud vendors have begun the difficult task of integrating security solutions that are capable of managing the
large number of privileged identities that make up their infrastructure (hardware, VM hosts, VM Image OS, application stacks). How can we trust in the cloud if the vendors of cloud-based infrastructure neglect to implement both process and technology to assure that segregation of duties is enforced as well as the management of identities between customer and cloud vendor? What about security auditing of cloud-based solutions in a multi-tenancy environment?

How to migrate to and in between cloud services without compromising service continuity.

Session Date and Time: Day 1/2, March 23/24, 19.30pm/11.15am EST (16.30/8.30pm West Coast) (45min)
Keywords: cloud service, migration strategy, quality of services (QoS), cloud performance, cloud application.
Authors: Ido Safruti, Cotendo Inc.
Abstract: If you have held back on migrating business-critical applications into the cloud, or you are considering to move services back into your datacenter, or to another cloud provider this session is for you.
Your services are live, end-users are on them - "hoping for the best" is not your strategy. You can't afford to put the business at risk. How can you ensure a seamless and reliable transition without impacting the end-users?

Cloud Security: What Organizations Need to Know.

Keywords: Cloud Security, Workflows, Workloads.
Authors: Dipto Chakravarty, VP of Novell.
Abstract: Many people believe you can take traditional identity and security practices, throw them in a cloud environment, and expect everything to work just fine. Not so! Businesses taking advantage of cloud computing should utilize cloud security approaches that support sharing of roles, policies, and workflows, rather than merely providing single sign-on.

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Meets "The Cloud": A Mandate Emerges.

Keywords: PaaS, Cloud computing benefits, Machine-to-Machine (M2M), asset tracking, SaaS.
Authors: Michael Campbell, President and CEO of SensorLogic™.
Abstract: The potential number of connected devices will reach billions within a small number of years. What’s driving this explosive growth is power of visibility (what is something, where is it, what condition is it in) and the ability to control assets, or change a business process based on this information. Cost and complexity have been inhibitors until now. Michael Campbell, President and CEO of SensorLogic will provide insight as to how delivering Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications through a Cloud platform (PaaS) make business sense as well as address the unique aspects of tracking and monitoring applications that almost mandate a shift to the Cloud Computing model.

Combining File Systems with Key Value Stores – A Best of Both Worlds Approach

Session Date & Time: Day 3 March 25 12:30pm EST (9:30AM PST) (45min)
Keywords: Storage, Key Value Stores, File Serving Infrastructure, Storage Software, Scalable Infrastructure.
Authors: Mark Balch, MaxiScale.
Abstract: The widespread use of cloud applications, including photo-sharing sites, news feeds and social networks, is increasing so quickly that IT cannot keep up with the application requirements. In the past, the reliance on relational databases worked due to limited size and scale of the applications. But times have changed.

Measuring the Fully Loaded Costs of Cloud Computing

Keywords: service delivery, business case, costs.
Authors: Michel Feaster, VP of Products at Apptio.
Abstract: Like many outsourcing options vying for IT dollars, cloud computing creates price and service delivery pressures on internal IT. Before the enterprise can truly embrace the cloud they must understand one critical metric: how to make an apples-to-apples comparison between internal IT resources and those of a cloud provider. This session will demonstrate new methodologies for understanding IT costs and how to build a business case for cloud computing.

Cloud Storage – Where Does it Fit into Tomorrow’s IT?

Keywords: cloud storage, cloud implementation, storage solutions, cloud security.
Authors: Miki Sandorfi and Melissa Rische, Hitachi Data Systems.
Abstract: While the last 18 months have been flooded with Cloud related media coverage, vendor announcements, and market reports, IT users have naturally shown interest in Cloud Storage services and solutions. As such, the industry has seen growing concerns regarding Cloud security, integration with existing IT, the portability of data and services, and the reliability of service providers.

Join Miki Sandorfi in this exploration of the various facets of Cloud Storage and learn about the potential of the Cloud evolution. The discussion will provide an overview of the Cloud Storage landscape and the major use cases and requirements for cloud implementation. Hear how Cloud Storage can strategically anticipate today’s IT needs and prepare for tomorrow’s automated IT.

Three Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn what it takes to put Clouds together today and where Cloud storage fits in the overall IT ecosystem
  2. Discover how Cloud moving us forward architecturally, its impact on IT and business, and the pitfalls to avoid
  3. Understand how storage solutions providers are helping companies prepare for the transition to Cloud.
