Panel Topic: Cloud-scale ERP on-demand supporting 500,000 users with SAP, T-Systems, and NetApp

Session Date and Time: Day 3, March 25, 17:30pm EST (14:30PM West Coast) (1 hour)
Keywords: ERP, Cloud.
Panelists: Sanjog Gad, SVP oCTO at SAP, Greg Smith, VP North America at T-Systems, Val Bercovici, VP oCTO at NetApp, George Gilbert, TechAlpha (Moderator).
Description SAP, T-Systems, and NetApp are collaborating on a proposal for a panel at CloudSlam focused on the following themes:

  • How to extend the SAP installed base with the new technology and economics of on-demand applications at the "edge"
  • How SAP is rebuilding under the covers in order to minimize customer disruption for on-demand deployment but while still delivering the scale and scope that core mission-critical systems demand
  • How a service provider like T-Systems can preserve existing applications but leverage the TCO and economic advantages of on-demand delivery - this part of the panel will go into some of the trade-offs behind how T-Systems leveraged its scale to build management technologies to support secure multi-tenancy that many on-demand vendors are also working on but that in this case works on existing SAP systems.
  • How a service provider platform can build higher level functionality and leverage better economics by building on specialized infrastructure - in this case NetApp. This part of the panel will explain the trade-offs between the integrated systems that Cisco/EMC and HP are building and the specialized systems that are differentiated by their management functionality and enable customers to deliver secure multi-tenancy.

Cloud Computing – the next BPM frontier

Session Date and Time: Day 2, March 24 15:15 EST (45 min.)
Keywords: BPM, enterprise cloud computing, IT, SaaS, adoption landscape.
Authors: Rick Carnal and Todd Lane, Appregatta Technologies.
Abstract: The movement from traditional on-premises software to cloud-based applications represents a fundamental shift at the enterprise level. The overall adoption of SaaS/cloud technologies has been gaining significant traction over the past few years. This trend, which has been fueled by early wins in key business functions including CRM, ERP, manufacturing/supply chain, and marketing, is helping to form a new business process management (BPM) paradigm that is changing “pure-play” solutions for the better. The market for BPM is growing rapidly, and IDC forecasts that the BPM market will reach $3 billion in 2013. “Pure-play” SaaS BPM companies are few and far between, and the broader landscape is changing rapidly as the power vendors maneuver to take advantage of the shift. Amidst the evolving market, customers have legitimate questions about BPM adoption and advances in service-oriented architecture (SOA) solutions. What are the main BPM cloud computing benefits? When will (or should) cloud replace, co-exist with, or operate independently from the secure IT infrastructure? While nobody has definitive answers to the many questions surrounding BPM and the shift to the cloud, an understanding of its evolution and observations about the current state of the market can help customers begin to navigate the BPM frontier.

Empowerment by the cloud Platform as a service provides business software promise.

Session Date & Time: 18.45pm EST (15.45pm PST) (45min)
Keywords: PaaS, ERP.
Authors: Treff LaPlante, CEO of WorkXpress.
Abstract:
cloud computing conference 2010There was a time when developers didn't do systems administration, sys admins didn't do development, and the rest of us didn't do either. That
time is past. In today’s world, the introduction of platform as a service
(PaaS) has spawned new capability for power business software users to
expand from merely utilizing an Excel spreadsheet or Access database to
actually building the software that can power business.

In my presentation, I will detail the empowerment provided by this new
realm of business software build environment. With platform as a service
cloud computing, businesses will be able to tailor their software to
particular business needs and enable vast levels of business process
automation.

I will cover the basics of cloud computing PaaS offerings, their benefits
and current drawbacks. And, to detail these benefits, I will use the
attached case study for Servolift. This company successfully built,
deployed and continue customizing their own custom software.

SAP Moves to/from Cloud with VAA

Keywords: SAP, Cloud, SAP landscape
Authors: Christopher M. Carter
Abstract: As hype cools and work gets under way, there is a general hunger for practical, experience-based advice. Follow a real world customer's use of a single gold server-application image for cross-domain provisioning of the data center, to multiple clouds and back.

The ability to move server-based SAP applications across virtual machines without any modifications, freed this Fortune 100 company from infrastructure lock-in. The multiplier effect of that freedom across the data center to *clouds, where "*" == any combination of Disaster Cloud, Private Cloud, Public Cloud, Hybrid Cloud or any combination of cloud vendors' offerings.

  1. SAP Can be used in the cloud for 75% of your landscape
  2. Infrastructure cost can be reduced as well as maintained time
  3. Freedom to chose in your SAP landscape and upgrades
