Keywords: cloud Development and Testing.
Authors: Ben Owen, Cloud Quality Assurance Services.
Abstract: Although Performance Testing has been around for many years, the approach for Cloud Computing environments needs to be adjusted to best address the risks and concerns these new complex environments create.

In today’s ever-changing systems landscape, the one question that remains relevant is “will this system do what I need it to do and when I need it to do it?”. This presentation will delve into Performance Testing in cloud environments, giving the audience a practical overview and approach to testing these specialized environments. The initial part of this presentation will be targeted towards the decision makers and C level executives to best understand the benefits of a full Performance Tested and tuned environment. We will also explore why it is critical for the business to both evaluate and validate what they are being provided by their vendors.

The presentation will then focus on the needs of the technical system owners, investigating the technical details of cloud Performance Testing, and discussing the issues and constraints of this approach. To conclude, two real world case study examples will be presented that will illustrate a performance test in a cloud environment. Although this presentation is not intended to be tool or vendor specific, we will detail the usage of certain tools in the case study and tools sections.

SLA.
Authors: Ram Kumar, Persistent Inc. and Anurag Jain, Gigzee Inc and Atul Srivastava, Nexius Inc.
Abstract: We all know the cloud is the current day panacea for Enterprise Data Center Cost reduction. It started with outsourced IT that cut internal IT costs by a third but left everything else intact. Virtualization is a step in the delivery of Enterprise Cloud and dynamic applications on demand, and a first big step towards the imagined panacea in the cloud. Virtualization also has the transforming effect of moving Capex to Opex. Multiple vendors have come up with virtualization solutions, but the challenges to operate and maintain a Virtual Data Center remain.

Abstract: If you have held back on migrating business-critical applications into the cloud, or you are considering to move services back into your datacenter, or to another cloud provider this session is for you.
Your services are live, end-users are on them - "hoping for the best" is not your strategy. You can't afford to put the business at risk. How can you ensure a seamless and reliable transition without impacting the end-users?

Reliable cloud computing: Web 2.0 Performance Testing and Scalability

Session Date and Time: Day 2, March 24 2010, 18:00pm EST (3.00PM PST) (45min)
Keywords: Web 2.0, Performance Testing, Scalability, Spike Load Test.
Authors: Neil Ashizawa, HP Software & Solutions.
Abstract: The health and availability of applications running in the cloud is a key concern for organizations today, especially during busy gift-giving holidays such as Father’s Day and Graduation. Both large and mid-sized enterprises need to prepare their web applications for sudden increases in web site traffic to prevent downtime and lost revenue. Why do IT execs and QA managers believe that they can execute a successful spike load test by simply starting a traditional load test, and then ramping up the number of virtual users until they have a large spike load test? The answer is cost and time constraints. HP’s Neil Ashizawa will address how organizations, both large and small, can deliver large load testing to ensure the global-class scale of their applications quickly and cost effectively, even in the most extreme situations.

Combining File Systems with Key Value Stores – A Best of Both Worlds Approach

Architectures for Distributed High Performance Video Processing in the Cloud.

Session Date & Time: Day 2, March 24, 18:00 EST (45 min)
Keywords: Video, Map Reduce, Amazon EC2, HaaS, PaaS.
Authors: Karin Breitman and Markus Endler, Depto. Informática, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro; Marcello Azambuja and Rafael Pereira, Globo.com.
Abstract: TV is dead! at least, as we know it. The traditional model, with clear separation between roles (producers, broadcasters and consumers) is giving way to a Cloud based one, where users produce, distribute, combine and watch video content anywhere, anytime, and using a multitude of different devices. In our presentation we’ll discuss some of its challenges, and demonstrate the solutions we’re working whith:
o Production challenges – The exponential growth of User-Generated-Content (UGG) makes it virtually impossible to estimate the volume of resources needed to run open submission systems, in particular those whose usage is seasonal. We introduce a cloud-based architecture that addresses this problem, and demonstrate an instance application that runs the registration system for candidates who wish to participate in the Brazilian Big Brother reality TV show (1).
